In plants with sodium zeolite softened makeup water the percentage is commonly determined by means of a chloride test. In higher-pressure boilers a soluble inert material may be added to the boiler water as a tracer to determine the percentage of blowdown.
May 04 2016 · Sulfite Test. Sulfite is added to boilers to remove dissolved oxygen which causes severe pitting corrosion. Theoretically it takes about 8 ppm of sodium sulfite to react with 1 ppm of oxygen. To assure that this reaction goes to completion and that all oxygen is removed an excess of 30 to 70 ppm of should be carried in the boiler water.
