Pressure Test: Hydrostatic and Pneumatic Test Requirements
5 min. Pressure tests are a non-destructive way to guarantee the integrity of equipment such as pressure vessels pipelines plumbing lines gas cylinders boilers and fuel tanks. It is required by the piping codes to confirm that a piping system is able to bear its rated pressure and it has no leaks. The most widely used code for pressure and leak test is the ASME B31 Pressure Piping Code.
Boilers and pressure vessels installed prior to Nov. 12 1986 are exempted from ASME construction requirements but not from the requirements for the controls and safety devices. Used objects may not be reinstalled unless they are ASME constructed and National Board registered.
ASME authorized inspection organizations performing pneumatic pressure testing of regulated equipment which are subject to assessment by a boiler safety officer. The requirements facilitate safe witnessing of pneumatic testing by Technical Safety BC employees and to meet the requirements of the Workers Compensation Act Section 115 1(a)(i).
Pneumatic Control Systems and Applications on Ships
Apr 30 2016 · There is risk of fire due to overheating. Expensive intrinsically safe / explosion proof equipment may be required. Moisture may cause damage to the system. Damage readily occurs in the event of a fire. Pneumatic Control System. Advantages. Not affected by ships power supply variations for short term. No heat generated and hence no risk of fire.
