Combustion of a Single Particle of Biomass | Energy & Fuels
In this paper both experimental and mathematical modeling approaches are employed to study the combustion characteristics of a single biomass particle ranging in size from 10 µm to 20 mm. Different subprocesses such as moisture evaporation devolatilization tar cracking gas-phase reactions and char gasification are examined.

Feb 01 2016 · For instance it takes about 34.5 s to completely burn a 10 mm spherical biomass particle at the furnace temperature of 900 °C; when the furnace temperature drops to 700 °C to complete the biomass combustion will take 60.3 s. The radiation is enhanced when increasing the furnace temperature which significantly accelerates the devolatilization and the char burnout processes.
