Detling Church

Image of Detling ChurchSt Martin of Tours Church at  Detling - Maidstone

Delightful St. Martin of Tours is situated on a slight rise towards the southern extremity of Detling Village on the slope of the North Downs.  The church is approached by a cobbled pathway that weaves its way up through a green graveyard to the outer porch.  This pathway has recently been joined by another, smoother surfaced path to give easier access.  The square tower, in grey stone, rises on the west end of the building, and is capped by a spire-like roof of dark grey tiles.  The main body of the church sports attractive rustic pink tiles.  St. Martin’s dates back to Saxon times; there are Victorian box pews in the nave and a lectern, decorated in the style of Edward III is one of the oldest of its kind.

If arriving by car you can usually  park directly in front of the church on the roadside, although we ask that you are mindful that this is the principal road into and out of Detling village.
